My World My Home is developing the next generation of environmental leaders
Friends of the Earth, in partnership with the NUS, train and mentor groups of students around the UK, building their skills and confidence to lead environmental change projects within their communities, whilst working towards an accredited qualification in Community Campaigning. See some examples of the campaigns delivered by students here (link to campaign examples as below).
All students taking part are supported by a package of face to face training sessions, 1:1s, and a bespoke coursebook as they build connections with others to design, deliver and evaluate a local environmental justice campaign.
My World My Home aims to;
- Give at least 160 young people transferable skills in leadership, group organising, project planning and delivery and communications that can be applied in professional contexts and that will enhance job applications and CVs;
- Create at least 60 separate local community projects delivering positive net gains (practical or policy) on climate change and/or nature will be delivered as a result of the programme;
- Engage a further 6,500 young people with environmental issues and opportunities to help plan, support and/or deliver local projects that create lasting change in their community;
- Support an alumni network of young people where they can hear from, share knowledge and progress with other young organisers that have participated in the course and so provide ongoing linkages and guidance to each other;
- Increase diversity of relationships: At least 75% of Young Organisers will also report that they have built public relationships with community leaders of a different ethnicity or religion as part of the project.
